Religious Philosophies and the Meaning of Life

There are no better presents than life itself. Supposedly, Christmas is a religious tradition with pagan origins. It is truly a celebration of life as Jesus Christ was born close to that day. Anyway, that is what most Christians celebrate during Christmas time. However, even non-Christians actually celebrate Christmas as well. In short, it has become an international tradition that is celebrated by giving Christmas presents, decorating, partying and drinking.

Even the most basic thing like the fact that we are alive is already a gift. Different religions have tried to explain how people existed and what happens after death. A lot of these are based on mythology as well which are as pagan in origin as Christmas. The first Christmas tree actually grew from a dead tree stump. Every year after his death, Nimrod, the husband and son of Semiramis would place gifts on the tree during his birthday which happens to be on December 25. Christianity itself came from Judaism. For those who do not know, the Old Testament is like the Jewish bible. The story of Genesis and how man came to be is seen in both Jewish and Christian books. According to Genesis, Adam was made in the image of God. According to Zen Buddhists, life is just an energy which is the product of the mind. Existentialists will argue that people create their own reason for living. Nietzsche’s philosophy is similar. Where do people go when they die? Christians would say they go to heaven. Practitioners of Hinduism believe people are reincarnated. Regardless of where a person truly goes to after death, the most important thing is to enjoy life.

The true meaning of life may be different according to different religions and philosophers, but it is still a fact that one must make the most out of your life. It is the only life you will ever have. If you can see it as a gift, you will value it more. Each moment should truly matter. Christmas is a holiday that most people will want to live for. It is just one out of many celebrations held to remind people of how happy life can be despite all the challenges it comes with. Christmas presents are just additional perks. This Christmas should be a celebration of life. You can see it as the celebration of the birth of Jesus or Nimrod. Whatever you believe, what matters is that you make the most out of your time here on earth.
